Steps To Making Handmade Orthotics At Home

By Nelda Powers

Although it is true that custom made arch support insoles for those who have flat feet must be made by a licensed professional, it is actually possible to make handmade orthotics at home. However, these types should only be made for those whose flat foot condition is not too severe. Basically, the homemade ones can be made for those who have low arches in order to stay safe.

So basically, in order to make one of these things, it is very important to have the necessary supplies. Basically, one would be needing a couple of existing insoles that would come from old shoes. One has to also make sure that the sizes of all the insoles are the same.

Once these soles have already been gotten, then the very next thing to do would be to get some glue. One is recommended to use super glue for this kind of project because super glue is very efficient and dries fast. However, if one does not have super glue in his house, then he may use some other sticky glue that is waterproof.

Now the first thing to do would be to get the existing insoles and measure them. As stated earlier, all of the insoles have to be of the same size so that there will be consistency. After that, put one insole on top of another and determine which part is the part that would hold the arch.

When it is has been found, cut that part out from only one of the soles. In other words, cut out that part of one sole and make sure that the other sole is whole. From there, glue the one that was cut to the one that is whole using the super glue or the waterproof glue.

After that, one may now leave the glue to dry before he tries to put it into his shoe and start walking. If he wants the glue to dry extremely fast, then he may use an electric fan to be able to help him. For fast drying purposes, one is recommended to use super fast drying glue that really sticks.

Now if one notices that the arch support is not high enough, then he may actually add another layer if he would want to. All he has to do is get another insole and just repeat the process that was done a while ago. After that, he just has to wait for the glue to dry again and try it on.

Now if one is an athlete who needs a higher arch support or is a person who has a low arch, then he may actually make handmade orthotics at home to save money. Now if he has a very severe case of being flat footed, then it is best that he already buys a custom made one. Other than that, the handmade one is actually more than enough.
