Solutions For Common Breastfeeding Problems

There are instances when it comes to mothers who have their first child, that they only realize the advices from doctors in breastfeeding when they actually start doing it. This is still regarded as the best means in nurturing the baby. This is also the joy for mothers and their moment to bond with their babies.

Although there are some challenges that mothers would undergo. There are many common breastfeeding problems that occur that would make the feeding time a bit uncomfortable. But of course, the doctor is there to help you with it, but the mother should be able to identify it when it arises so it can be solved as fast as possible.

Latching pain occurs when the position of the baby and their mouths tend to go over the areola. This pain is normal at first, but if it goes over for a minute or two, then this is where you need to check it. Reposition by placing your index finger inside the mouth to take them off. Either wait for them to open their mouth or tickle their chin so you can latch your nipple again in a more comfortable way.

Cracked nipples could be a sign from improper pumping, latching problems, dry skin, and thrush. You can initially try the removal and repositioning for a couple of times to lessen this. Also, you can use the milk to heal the cracked areas and let it air dry. Never use products in the house aside from water or the milk for moisturization of the nipples.

Clogged or plugged ducts may be an underlying symptom for an infection if it comes with feverish tendencies and aches that stretches for long period of time. If that is not the case and it is only redness and a light bearable sore feeling, you can try massaging it to increase milk flow and movement. Apply warm compress as well.

The lactation can sometimes be in a large amount and this would tend to give the baby an uncomfortable or difficult time for them to latch on the breast. Hand express the milk first until it becomes softer before letting the baby latch. If the nursing is more frequent, it is then less likely for it to engorge.

An infection which is caused by bacteria is mastitis. It comes along with fever and then breast pains. There are various causes for this and it includes plugged ducts, cracked skin, or engorgement. This can be solved through hot compression, antibiotics, and frequent expressing of the milk.

Another type of infection is thrush with is caused by fungi or yeast. This can be initially found around the mouth of the baby which will be passed on to the breast of the mother. These are rashes and itchiness and you need to consult your doctor for recommended anti fungal creams you can use. Apply this to both on the baby and on the breast for them to heal at same times.

It is normal to have a prickly needle like sensation when feeding. But if this lasts for a longer amount of time and the sensation becomes like a thousand needles poking at your breast, then this is an indication of an infection. Get the necessary medicines and remedies from your doctor when this happens.
