What Would Happen During Alcohol Rehab Houston

By Annabelle Holman

Drinking problems are extremely hard to cure simply because drinking problems would include both physical and psychological issues wherein one would have to deal with both in order to be healed. Now if one would attend an alcohol rehab houston program, then he would be detoxifying both his mind and his body and the same time. If one believes that he has a drinking problem, then he might want to go and try out this type of program.

Now if the body of the patient would already be used to regular alcohol intake, then he will suffer if he tries to stop. So the first thing that one would be doing in this program would be a full body cleansing in order to flush out the substance fully from his body. This time in which the physical detoxification may last would depend on how much the patient drinks.

As he is trying to cleanse his body from the substance, he will be feeling a bit of withdrawal symptoms. Now he will be feeling these symptoms because his body is not used to not having the substance inside of the body. Now some of the mild symptoms that one may experience during the period of time would be nervousness, nausea, and of course a lot of shaking.

Now if one is a very heavy drinker, then he might experience a lot more worse symptoms. Some of these really bad symptoms may include hallucinations, convulsions, or even high blood pressure. In order to prevent these symptoms, one can actually take some medicines or sedatives to temporarily take away these symptoms.

Now once the few weeks of detoxification have passed, then his body has already cleansed from the substance. Now the next thing to think of now would be the curing of the mind because being addicted to this substance would also affect the thinking of a person. Of course he will receive therapy after the detox.

Now one of the things that would give therapists a hard time would be the denial tendencies of the alcoholic patient. More often than not, the patients would still continue denying that they have a problem even at this stage. Now the therapists would constantly be having sessions with the patients so that the therapists may help try to change the mindset of the patients.

There are going to be times when the patient is depressed or have some negative thoughts about himself. Now the medical doctors would step into the picture and offer some antidepressants. The reason why antidepressants would have to be used would be because negative thoughts may hamper the healing process.

Of course if the patient is already doing better, then the therapist will now get him to participate in healthier activities like sports or art. He may ask the patient to take up things like yoga or jogging which could improve health. Of course the therapist will be staying by his side at all times until he has already gotten his life back and is ready to move on.
